The president of the Santo Antão Association of Tourism Guides highlights the positive impact of this tourism on the island’s economy. Santo Antão is known for its extensive network of hiking trails, with classic routes like Cova – Paul and Ponta do Sol – Cruzinha being the most popular. It is important to visit three key locations: Estrada da Corda, Ponta do Sol with Fontainhas, and the Paul Valley. Although the island was previously known only for hiking, it is now a year-round destination for all ages. However, an airport is not considered a priority at the moment, with a suggestion to improve the coordination between ferry and flight schedules. The president of the Santo Antão Association of Tourism Guides, however, believes that an airport is necessary for future development and sustainable tourism, preserving the island’s natural essence. Nature tourism is seen as a crucial diversification from the traditional ‘sun and beach’ tourism, enriching Cape Verde’s overall appeal.

Source: https://inforpress.cv/web/guest/w/santo-antao/turismo-ilha-continua-a-registar-boa-actividade-turistica-apesar-da-epoca-baixa-agtsa

The island of Santo Antão, in Cape Verde, is currently experiencing its peak season for nature tourism, attracting many international tourists, mainly French.
