The trail then continues, sometimes at dizzying heights, along the mountainside to a point where the landscape abruptly changes to bizarre rock formations made of water-storing pumice stone. This striking location indicates that you&#8217;re approaching the great plateau, where you&#8217;ll catch your first glimpse of Tope de Coroa, the highest mountain in Santo Ant\u00e3o. On the plateau, the landscape transforms again into wide and fragrant grasslands, providing a perfect setting for a longer rest break before descending to the famous serpentines of Bordeira de Norte.
