This hike is considered one of the most beautiful on the island. Even the locals call it their paradise, a garden of Eden, where due to the subtropical temperature fruit and vegetables grow in abundance. Walk down from Cova Crater on old cobbled paths to Paul Valley, passing terraced fields of sweet potato and Congo beans, and banana, almond, and mango trees. Lower down in the valley, sugar cane is grown to make grogue, a popular local spirit. Smell the freshly roasted coffee beans as you walk through the small hamlets. Depending on the time of year, you can also visit a grogue distillery. The walk can be hard on the knees, so make sure you bring your walking poles. The impressive path to Fontainhas takes about one hour and is characterized by the huge mountain slopes on its left side and steep abysses on the right. Fontainhas, seemingly like an eagle\u2019s nest hanging on the mountainside, is one of the most impressive places in Cape Verde and a must-see for every Santo Ant\u00e3o visitor.
