Itinerary
DAY 1: LAGOA TO CAIBROS
Duration: 4hours +300 -1200 8km
Arrival on santo antao Island by ferry and transfer to lagoa The route begins on a dirt road felled until the locality of Matinho. Then, the path starts going down that runs along the hillside to the next village. The visitor has a clear perception of the contrast between the North / Northeast and the South of the island, on one side, the immense Ribeira Grande, the largest hydrographic basin in the country. There is little human fixation at the starting pont of the hike. The population is dedicated to cattle raising, dry farming and cheese production. Already, at the ending point, we will find a dense fixation of the population, whose main activity is the agriculture of Regadio.

DAY 2: CAIBROS TO CHA DE IGREJA
Duration : 4-5 hours +500 -600 9km
We start walking on the road from the accommodation until boca de ambas ribeiras where the path will climb up the steep slope till the pass to the valley of Mocho. From there one can discover the wonderful panorama on the valley of mocho. Lunch can be served in a private house(if you want). You wil pass some spectacular mountain scenery today as we walk. The mountains are not high but they are steep and rugged. We zigzag around the contours on well-made old mule paths passing some hamlets as we walk.

DAY 3: CRUZINHA TO PONTA SOL
Duration : 5-6 hours +550 -550 15 km
Early departure to take full advantage of one of the most beautiful and majestic hiking trails on the island: a paved balcony path, an incredible masterpiece suspended over the ocean and the only way to access lost villages of Corvo and Forminguinhas. We reach Fontainhas, a colorful hilltop village and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful on the island, before descending to Ponta do Sol, whose buildings bear witness to a past splendor.

DAY 4: CHA DE MATO TO RIBEIRA DA TORRE AND RIBEIRA GRANDE CITY
Duration: 5 hours -1100 12km
The hike starts about 1100 meters of altitude. It extends through an altitude subhumid climate, with energetic morphology of challenging mountains. The circuit travels wet ridges exposed to the northeast monsoon, carrying fogs causing lateral precipitation mainly at night. There are endemic plants everywhere. Note the Losna, Cow tongue, Alevatão, Marcelina, Bálsamo and many others. This route, which develops between dryland and irrigated properties.

DAY 5: PINHAO TO LOMBO BRANCO AND SINAGOGA
Duration: 4-5hours +600 -800 6km
Transfer to pinhão our starting point. With its numerous hamlets we cross from valley to valley passing by monte joana and lombo Branco, a village in height with a beautiful panoramic view on the ocean before descending to Sinagoga where the old Sinagogue is located.

DAY 6: COVA CRATER TO PAUL VALLEY
Duration: 4-5 hours +100 -1200 12 km
Even the locals call it their paradise, a garden of Eden, where due to the subtropical temperature fruit and vegetables grow in abundance.
Walk down from Cova Crater on old cobbled paths to Paul Valley, past terraced fields of sweet potato and Congo beans, and banana, almond, and mango trees.
Whilst lower down in the valley the sugar-cane is grown to make grogue, a popular local spirit. Smell the freshly roasted coffee beans when you walk through the small hamlets. Depending on the time of the year, you can also visit a grogue distillery. The walk can be hard on the knees, so make sure you bring your walking poles.

DAY 7: DISCOVER PAUL VALLEY
Duration : 5 hours -450 +650 10 km
Short transfer to the starting point .This one is diferente of the previous one.you will discover this beautiful valley which is the greenest and richest of the archipelago. By borrowing the little trails between the crops and fields of sugar cane, coffee, guavas etc … and many other tropical plants.
DAY 8: TRANSFER TO PORTO NOVO AND FERRY TO SAO VICENTE
